Vince Zempella has formally disclosed initial information regarding the upcoming Battlefield game, featuring a modern-era shooter accommodating 64 players.
In a recent interview, Vince Zempella affirmed several details that Insider Gaming previously reported in February 2024. The key points include:
- A revival of the classic Battlefield experience, emphasizing a “back to basics” approach.
- The reintroduction of 64-player maps.
- A return to the class-based gameplay system.
- An anticipated release date is set for 2025.
Insider Gaming has reported that the Battlefield franchise is developing a new free-to-play Battle Royale experience. At present, the game features two distinct modes: the traditional Battle Royale format and a mode called ‘Gauntlet,’ where teams of players engage in objective-based challenges, with the team scoring the least being eliminated after each mission.
Regarding the return to foundational elements, Zempella remarked, “If we reflect on the height of Battlefield’s success, it was during the Battlefield 3 and 4 era, characterized by its modern setting. I believe we must return to the essence of what the game represents and execute that exceptionally well, after which we can determine the future direction. For me, the pinnacle of Battlefield is encapsulated in the days of Battlefield 3 and 4. This period evokes nostalgia for players, myself, and the development teams. Those were truly the golden years, although I would also acknowledge the significance of 1942.
